We've just taken a bit of a break.

However, we'll be playing a show pretty soon. Here are the specs.

THURSDAY, OCT 7
CAPITOL GARAGE (THE NEW ONE) ON K ST
9:30

We're playing the first Amateurs. It's basically what Fuck Fridays was - DJ sets by Jon and Shaun, and live bands. Here's the website. http://www.angelfire.com/droid/smdc/amateursmain.html

It's 21 and over (just like all the shows at the new Cap Garage), so you kiddies need to get a fake ID or sneak in or something.

Come out and watch us play. It's the first show we've played for a few months, and we're going to be doing some more re-grouping after so it will be the last chance to see us for a couple more months. We've even got a surprise for you. See you there.

-Chris

ok. so, i recently posted that i doubt anything could be worse than the burning man festival. i was wrong. indeed, something is worse, and it is the summertime davis farmer's market. now, i'm not particularly against the farmer's market itself. however, the special summertime events are THE WORST. there is always a terrible cover band full of old dudes who weren't punk enough to die in 1981. one of them usually plays some sort of wind instrument. they play terrible songs, and their filthy little kids run around naked and dance. the only thing worse than a hippie dancing is a shitty little naked hippie kid dancing. i did learn three things though.

1. never have kids

2. die before I'm 40

3. thank my dad for never being in a band that covered bachman-turner overdrive when i was growing up.

<lj:music>something so indie. you've never even heard of it.</lj:music>

this thing is long, and i didn't want to fix the spelling, so piss off

i live in sacramento now. sacramento is so much more indie-rock than davis. by indie-rock i mean cheap, loud and big. my place is almost half the size of my last one, but almost half the price too. every morning i wake up to the sound of diesel truck transmissions and motorcycles owned by guys with balls so big that they just had to take off their mufflers. you know, because you're not a real man until your automobile can set off at least two car alarms for each block.

also, i think that sacramento has the most belligerent bums of any city in the country. i know this sounds a bit exaggerated, but i've been to chicago, new york, san francisco, LA, Las Vegas and a bunch of other really big cities and the bums there were pretty benign. i mean, major crime rarely comes from the homeless people. bums rarely have the strength or will to accost you. that's why they're bums and not thieves.

but anyways, as i was saying. bums in sac like to get very eXXtreme. here's a good example. a couple weeks ago, i was at a mexican food place with my roommate stan. stan bought himself a taco, and we went out front to eat at an outdoor table. he went back inside to wash his hands and get some utensils, and while he was inside i got a phone call. i was talking on the phone, within reaching distance from his taco.

so, this crunkard starts walking towards me. now, it may be important to note that we had an encounter with this crunkard a few minutes before. stan and i were walking and he asked for some money. anyone who knows me also knows that i rarely have any cash in my wallett, and pay for most thinks with my atm card. but even if i had cash, i probably wouldn't have given him any because i'm a heartless asshole. needless to say, we politely said "sorry dude," and went along our merry way.

so the guy is walking down the sidewalk, but is definately heading towards me. he's not one of those smells-like-piss-with-newspaper-for-shoes-and-a-big-beard kinda crunkards. he was more of the thirty-something-dude-with-no-shoes-or-shirt-wearing-a-dirty-pair-of-cutoff-jeans-and-really-skinny-looks-like-iggy-pop-with-a-handlebar-mustache-but-probably-pseudo-homeless-crank-head crunkards. i think, oh man i'm going to have to beat up a crazed tweaker just as he walks past me. then i realised he wasn't walking towards me, he was walking towards stan's taco. so this guy reaches over the short metal fence, while im standing right there watching mind you, and picks up stan's taco. i yell, "hey asshole. that's my friend's taco!!" he looks at me, real slow like. you know, like the scenes in those monster movies where the super brave or possibly fatally wounded character jumps from his hiding space and yells at the monster so that his doomed friends can escape. the monster hears, and looks back at the dude. yeah, it was one of those looks.

so he looks at me, mutters something, and then throws the taco down and walks off. now, stan gets back right about then and i tell him what happened. stan is pissed, of course, and yells "fucking bum" really loud. the bum hears and turns around and starts walking towards us, totally mad-dogging us. you know, as if he was a frat-boy who needed to fight his honor back in order to score with some loose girl who he was talking to when another drunk dude walked into him and made him spill his fifty cent beer.

"hey dude, you don't see me stealing your food. so don't steal mine." this is what stan says, but the bum does not understand logic like that. he keeps heading our way, looking like he wanted to fight...but all the time mumbling and sputtering incomprehendably, but furious nonetheless. so, of course we have testicles, so we start talking all big and bad. "oh big talk, big guy. what are you going to do? you're the one who stole our food, so why don't you do the smart thing and get out of here before we make you leave."

so the bum takes a swing at each of us, and so we decide its time to kick his ass. we each take a chair and beat him sensless by hitting him over the head about thirty times. turns out, we actually killed him. the cops come and take him away. as it turns out, bums aren't legally people, so they don't have any rights and it's only kind-of illegal to kill them. we were each given a modest fine, and told to keep our chairs to ourselves net time...just in case it was actuall an undercover cop or a freelance writer next time, because then we'd really be in trouble.

actually, the bum just walked off and tried to con a few quarters from the nearest pay phone. stan his taco. he figured the cook's hands were probably filthier than any of the bums. he didn't get sick, so i guess he was right.

but i swear, the bums in sac are real jerks. they like to get in your face.

You must be out of your mind or someone has paid you a fortune to write/print this bad review of an exciting, talented band and their first effort. Wow, you are so far off base and out in left field!! Good thing you don't play baseball. Don't like Aerosmith & Black Crowes? You blow my mind. What new records are you in to anyway? Boy-band? Girl-band? Both? Well, Velvet Revolver has the record sales to prove you very WRONG!!

---------------------------------------------------

you're an absolute moron. Your review of VR is poorly written and makes no sense. It's increadible how idiots can make a living putting such garbage on the net.

-------------------------------------------

I think you blow away your brain with some illegal chemical products, or
you even never had one! Fuck you!
-Max from far far away (Austria)

--------------------------------------------

I think you would get it if you were`nt so old.Maybe the new Jimmy Buffet is more to your liking.Old people never understood Elvis The Beatles The Sex Pistols when they first came out..When you have to buy your favorite music instead of getting free copies to review then you`ll understand..True Rock and Roll is and has always been for the young.RAWK AND ROLL..

--------------------------------------------------

what kind of a review do you call that? You must be living on the streets to be that jealous! Slash and co have already earned there rights to be as famous as they are, and they didnt write the album to prove anything to anyone, they dont need too, especially not to some bellend like you.

Its quite obvious your some typical university student who likes the rest of the music scene, which is currently labelled under 'crap', and loves every minute of it.

"Slash's riffs are the same recycled rock licks", dude, you obvious have no clue, theres so much difference between this stuff and the stuff he did with GnR and Snakepit, it aint recycled. And thats a bit rich using the word "Recycled", when the all the other music out at present is just that, recycled. All the rappers, DJ's, MC's and pop pricks like Justin Timberlake couldnt produce a decent musical song to save their lifes, VR can.

So in conclusion, get a real taste in music, insted of being a sheep! Dickhead,

so my official moniker at the aggie is now C.M. Caskey. damn, that is sweet. if you ever want to search for articles and reviews that i've written since the end of spring quarter 2004, you need to search C.M. Caskey. not that you actually care about anything i do, or even care to look up anything ive ever written. i sure as hell wouldn't. I suppose I'll post some of my better articles and reviews and such. Especially the ones that get me angry letters. Although, usually i get letters for artsweek stuff, and i'm not going to post every artsweek.

its summer. i have 2 jobs. i work 7 days a week. i am now the arts editor at the aggie. i haven't posted anything for god knows how long, and i may not post anything for a long time to come. i don't really have the time. now, everyone knows that saying you dont have the time is total bullshit because if you really want to do something, you make time for it. however, posting in a livejournal was something i did when i was bored all of the time. now that i am not, what's the point? i figure, going out of your way to make time for livejournal is so lame. it really says something about you if that's the case. I'm an asshole though, so what do I know?

speaking of assholes, there has been a lot of indirect mud slinging going my way on the ucdavis thread. people saying the arts desk and arts writers are worthless hacks or something. and then people calling my band assholes. whatever. screw them.
